Lawsuit Filed Over Censored Ads on Animal Experimentation

Advancing Law for Animals and the Law Office of Matthew Strugar filed a Free Speech lawsuit against Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) on behalf of the White Coat Waste Project (WCW).

In April 2023, WCW asked WMATA to run ads on various government-funded animal experiments, including WCW’s investigations of the NIH’s $2 million “Coke Hounds” experiment on puppies and a $1.5 million “hamster fight club” funded by the NIH and National Science Foundation. WCW even proposed a simple ad that just includes its name, logo, and tagline.

But WMATA rejected WCW's ads in violation of the First, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendments. Now, we’re suing to overturn WMATA’s illegal ad censorship policies and viewpoint discrimination, and to compel WMATA to run WCW’s ads.

ICYMI: Advancing Law for Animals also represents WCW in an unprecedented lawsuit against NIH to close the Foreign Animal Lab Loophole, an illegal agency rule that exempts taxpayer-funded foreign animal labs from animal oversight measures necessary to prevent abuse and waste.
